Founder, Combat Sports Hygiene Brazilian jiu-jitsu grappler

I'm Eddie, founder of Combat Sports Hygiene and the person behind these articles. I train Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and the mats are exactly where this whole thing started. After one too many run-ins with the skin problems that go round every gym, I couldn't find a hygiene product built for how grapplers actually train - so we made one.

That lived experience shapes everything we publish here. It's written by someone who trains, sweats and rolls, not a content farm. If a tip wouldn't survive a hard week of sparring, it doesn't go in.

Experience & how we work

  • Written from hands-on years training Brazilian jiu-jitsu and around combat-sports gyms.
  • Every health claim is researched against trusted public-health and dermatology sources - NHS, CDC, DermNet and the British Association of Dermatologists.
  • Health and skin-condition articles are medically reviewed and fact-checked by our medical consultant, Dr Asoka Wijayawickrama.

MBBS, MRCS(Eng), MRCGP CSH Medical Consultant

Our health and skin-hygiene content is medically reviewed by Dr Asoka Wijayawickrama, a practising GP partner in West London with more than 25 years' experience. He qualified in medicine at King's College London in 1998 and holds membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MRCS) and the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP), with further postgraduate diplomas in medical education, diabetes & endocrinology, ENT and occupational medicine.

Dr Asoka is an examiner for Imperial College School of Medicine and a programme director for GP training in Hillingdon, and runs Asoka Medical & KL Aesthetics in Ruislip. He's also embedded in combat sports: a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and former amateur MMA competitor, he carries out pre-fight medicals and works as a ringside physician for promotions including Cage Warriors. That rare mix - frontline GP and combat-sports doctor - is exactly why he checks our content for medical accuracy.

How every article is made

Every piece follows the same two steps. First, it's written from lived experience - by someone who actually trains and knows what gym life is really like. Then, where it touches health, skin conditions or hygiene science, it's reviewed and fact-checked by Dr Asoka against trusted clinical sources. Experience on the mats, expertise from the clinic. Our articles are for education and general guidance only and are never a substitute for personal medical advice - for any active skin concern, see a pharmacist or GP.
