Rugby is a hygiene sport that nobody treats as one
Thirty players, one pitch, one changing room, a pile of kit that goes home damp. For the touchline bag
The injuries in rugby are mostly small and mostly skin: grazes, grass burns, astro burns, nosebleeds, split lips. For after training, before the shower
The hour between the final whistle and the shower is where grazes get grubby and the changing-room lurgies do their work. The season, in order

The rules that do most of the work
- Shower after training, not at bedtime.
- Kit washed every session. A damp bag in the boot for two days is how a squad shares a skin problem.
- Nails short, gum shields never shared, towels never shared.
- Grazes and burns cleaned and covered before the next session.
- Anything you can't explain on your skin: pharmacist first, then back to training.
